Ski Workation
25th February - 10th March 2024 in Bourg-St-Pierre - Switzerland

Ever thought about skiing, being a month in the beauty of the winter Alps but never knew how to get started?

Our Ski Month in Bourg St. Pierre Switzerland is for those that want to learn a new skill and try out skiing. We are here to share with you our love for winter sports in a community of likeminded individuals while getting things done.

Besides skiing, most of us will be working on the computer ca. half of the time (but in the end it is your decision, how much you want to ski and how much to work). Furthermore we also want to explore the region, have great parties, relax in the thermal bath, meet cool people and have a good time together.
Will I really learn to ski?
You can learn to ski pretty well in a month. You'll be amazed at how fast it goes.
During the first few days we stay in Bourg St. Pierre on the beginners' slope.
An averagely athletic person needs two to three days to be able to ski down the easiest slope relatively fearlessly.
After that we will go to the the longer ski lift to La fouly and if you dare, you can soon already take the chair lift to ski a longer blue run.

The ski slopes in europe are divided into three categories: blue (beginners), red (intermediate), black (good skiers). There is also a yellow slope for freeriders and other crazy skiers.

Basic tips for skiing
  • Stretch before you hit the slopes and after you get back to the coliving place, just like you would with any exercise!
  • Go easy when you're just learning and take lots of breaks. You're here to have fun, remember?
  • Hydrate, hydrate, hydrate. This one can be tricky to remember in the winter when it's cold, but it's still really important. Packing an extra reusable water bottle with electrolytes is a good idea.
  • Throw a few snacks in your pockets for when you get hungry.
  • Wear sunscreen! Especially on sunny days, the glare from the snow can be brutal on your skin. That goes for windburn, too. Be sure to cover up and keep your skin happy!
  • Keep your phone warm so the battery doesn't die in the cold! Best to keep this in an inside pocket, closer to your body heat.
  • Keep your goggles off your forehead so they won't fog up. When you take your helmet off during breaks, take your goggles off your helmet and stow them safely inside the helmet. This will keep pesky lens scratches at bay and the foam padding will hold up longer!
  • Call it quits before you're too tired, especially if you have a longer drive home at the end of the day.

Our ski areas
We start right outside our village on the La Lorette ski lift and after that we continue our progress in:
Liddes-Vicheres, La Fouly and Champex-lac
La Lorette

Location is right outside our village Bourg-St-Pierre.
It is here where you will start to learn your new skill.

We will teach you everything you need to know to get safely down the slopes. From how to fit your boots, step into your skies, get on the ski lift and off, making turns, gaining some speed and making a controlled stop.

Liddes-Vichères

Located just a 15 minute drive away, this is the closest ski resort to our chalet, with a shuttle bus running daily right outside our door. This is a small but good resort used by the locals that is far from the hustle and bustle and never overcrowded with tourists.

There are 15 km of slopes available and 4 lifts at altitudes between 1,595 m and 2,267 m. There are 7 km of easy slopes, 5 km of intermediate and 3 km of difficult, making it the perfect place for beginner to intermediate skiers.

It doesn't have a designated learning area so it's not ideal for beginner skiers, but there is a complete beginner slope less than 10 minutes away so first timers can train there before joining the others.

When it comes to taking a break, grabbing a bite to eat or heading for a well deserved beer or vin chaud after the day's skiing, the resort has a small bar / restaurant at the top of the main lift and a larger one at the bottom, both have a decent selection as well as more than reasonable prices for Switzerland.

And of course, let's not forget the beautiful view of the Alps!

La Fouly
Located a 30 minute drive away with a view of the Mount Blanc Massif, La Fouly is the most varied of our local ski resorts. With something for all ages and ability levels. There are 3 lifts and 20 km of pistes, as well as additional freeride routes that can only be conquered with a guide. There are also excellent options for cross country skiing and snowshoeing in the valley.

La Fouly has a ski school for kids and has an excellent learning area for beginners, who can easily go from testing the waters to descending their first blue slope in a matter of hours. If you fancy getting active in the evening, night skiing is available on the bottom slope every Wednesday and Saturday from 7-9pm, where sledges and mini snow scooters can also be rented.

For those needing to rent equipment, we're good friends with the owners of the rental store at the entrance of the resort, so you're sure to get kitted out for a good price. The bar & restaurant is reasonably priced and often hosts a DJ during the weekends. However, if you're looking to grab a cheaper bite to eat, there's also a small supermarket next to the rental shop.
Champex-Lac

Located about 30 minutes drive away next to one of neighbouring villages, this ski resort has 25 km of pistes, and while there is one decent blue run, the majority are red and black slopes designed for intermediates and upper-intermediates. There are also plenty of cross country tracks groomed for both classic and skating techniques.

As the pistes start above 2000 m, the snow is generally reliable and consistent all throughout the season. The small lower piste is illuminated every night for the night time adventurers.

This is almost definitely the ski resort with the most to do besides skiing and snowboarding with an ice skating rink, an ice climbing pyramid and walking trails around the lake all within the immediate vicinity.

When it comes to eating and drinking, there are 2 restaurants, one at the top of the lift and one at the bottom, as well as a refreshments hut next to the nursery slope.
